STROKE IDENTIFICATION:
STROKE IDENTIFICATION:

During a BBQ, a friend stumbled and took a little fall - she assured
everyone that she was fine (they offered to call paramedics) .....she said
she had just tripped over a brick because of her new shoes.

They got her cleaned up and got her a new plate of food. While she appeared
a bit shaken up, Ingrid went about enjoying herself the rest of the evening.

Ingrid's husband called later telling everyone that his wife had been taken
to the hospital - (at 6:00 pm Ingrid passed away.) She had suffered a stroke
at the BBQ. Had they known how to identify the signs of a stroke, perhaps
Ingrid would be with us today. Some don't die.... they end up in a helpless,
hopeless condition instead.

It only takes a minute to read this...

A neurologist says that if he can get to a stroke victim within 3 hours he
can totally reverse the effects of a stroke... totally . He said the trick
was getting a stroke recognized, diagnosed, and then getting the patient
medically cared for within 3 hours, which is tough.

RECOGNIZING A STROKE
Thank God for the sense to remember the "3" steps, STR . Read and Learn!

Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify. Unfortunately, the
lack of awareness spells disaster. The stroke victim may suffer severe brain
damage when people nearby fail to recognize the symptoms of a stroke .

Now doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple
questions:
S * Ask the individual to SMILE.
T * Ask the person to TALK and SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE (Coherently)
(i.e. It is sunny out today)
R * Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS.

If he or she has trouble with ANY ONE of these tasks, call 999/911
immediately and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher.

New Sign of a Stroke -------- Stick out Your Tongue

NOTE: Another 'sign' of a stroke is this: Ask the person to 'stick' out his
tongue.. If the tongue is 'crooked', if it goes to one side or the other ,
that is also an indication of a stroke.

A cardiologist says if everyone who gets this e-mail sends it to 10 people;
you can bet that at least one life will be saved.
Start the year off right. Easy ways to stay in shape
in
the new year.

Police crack down on off-roaders (Severn Beach)
Source: http://www.avonandsomerset.police.uk/LocalPages/NewsDetails.aspx?nsid=11874&t=1&lid=2
==
Officers from the Severnside Neighbourhood Team are running an ongoing operation to tackle off-road vehicle users who are risking injury to themselves and others.

Neighbourhood PC Daryl Lodge said: "Large numbers of people have been gathering at Western Approaches Business Park, Severn Beach, and using the site for off-roading on motorcycles, quad bikes and 4x4 vehicles.

"The site is currently under development and the landowners have not given any permission for it to be used in this way.

"Riders are also taking these vehicles onto the roads, putting themselves and local people at risk, not to mention the noise nuisance villagers are suffering."

Anyone caught at the site gets a written warning and risk having their machines seized and crushed if they are caught again.

PC Lodge stressed: "We have even stopped a child of three riding at this site. Parents must take responsibility for their children's safety and behaviour. If you are buying these off-road motorcycles or quad bikes for young people you must make arrangements for them to be used safely and appropriately, not at Western Approaches where the use of these vehicles is not permitted."

Brooch could help identify woman - Severn Beach - Binn Wall
Brooch could help identify woman
The brooch was found on the body of a woman at Severn Beach
The brooch was attached to a dark-coloured jumper
A brooch found on the body of a woman discovered on a beach may help identify who she is.

The woman's body was found Friday 18 January on mud flats near to Binn Wall, Severn Beach, South Gloucestershire.

Avon and Somerset Police initially thought the body's discovery may have had connections with an enquiry being conducted by Gloucestershire Police.

But, as a result of forensic tests and information from dental imprints taken, this connection has now been ruled out.

Memory jog

Detectives have talked to other forces about missing people, but the woman's identity remains a mystery.

Officers are now hoping someone may recognise the brooch and come forward to identify the woman.

The woman is thought to have been aged between 35 and 50, and was of medium to large build.

She was wearing dark blue or black trousers, and black leather ankle boots.

She had also been wearing a dark-coloured jumper which the brooch was attached to.
