Severn Beach Neighbourhood Watch - Meeting Notes
Severn Beach Neighbourhood Watch - Meeting NOTES

12th November 2007

The annual Neighbourhood Watch AGM dealt with the efforts to warn children of the dangers of chatrooms on the internet with visits to schools in the area and talks to parents. A tel no was given to children for help and advice if they feel uncomfortable about anything whilst using their computer. The meeting also dealt with the recent bad publicity, and about the real role of community police and discussed the finances of these schemes.

The Safer Stronger Community Group meeting at Almondsbury was attended by representatives from all the public services. A public meeting is to be held on 31st January 2008 at Easter Compton and is open to everyone who wishes to raise concerns about anything in their community.

Since the clocks went back in October there has been a spate of burglaries in the afternoon period. Everyone is advised to invest in time lights for periods when homes are unoccupied.

Crime figures there were 10 incidents in Severn Beach, 4 domestic, 1 Car stolen, 1 theft from a car, 1 theft of tools 2 pedal cycles stolen and 1 incident of damage.

The police had a high profile during Hallowean and Bonfire night both of which passed with few incidents of trouble.

Parking at the junction of Pilning Crossroads causing a problem, also in Ableton Court car park and pavement parking in Stride Close and at the top of Albert Road, Police to follow up.

Lorries are still getting lost in Severn Beach looking for Western Approaches, motorised pedal bikes being ridden carelessly. And cyclists have been seen using the sea wall. There is a guide in the Post Office marking out the cycle routes and there are signs on the sea wall although they are small and not easily seen.

With global warning and possible flooding members have raised concerns over the lack of maintenance to the many ditches in the area.  It was suggested we make enquires as to who is responsible.

The lane between Gorse Cover Road and Beach Avenue is overgrown Silent telephone calls can be blocked - contact your telephone provider.

There were a few problems at the Remembrance Day Parade where people couldn’t hear the service due to traffic which was only stopped for the two minutes silence, it was suggested that next year the road is closed to all traffic for the service at the cenotaph.

There have been some problems with the bus service - Complaints can be passed to Maria Pullman on tel no 01454 868686

Former member Mrs Lifton is now resident in Sir John Wills House and all the members sent her best wishes.

Merry Christmas and happy New Year to all our members.

Christmas

Get your Neighbourhood Watch 2008 Calendars from Severn Beach Post Office or Frances Barr, MBE, only £1, will make an excellent stocking filler!

Remember this time of year thieves are about even more.  If you are Christmas Shopping, leave your purchases in the boot of your car, and not on show on the back seat.  Hide them at home, not just from your children but from burglars, and never leave them under the Christmas Tree until Christmas morning.  If you are at a Christmas Party, do not drink and drive, and never accept a lift from someone you do not know.  Likewise keep your glass in full view, and leave it if it tastes funny. Above all have a safe and enjoyable time.

Theft by employee (tools). 30.10.07 - Abbott Road, theft of 2 Pedal cycles.  It appears there was no crime in Pilning! Halloween passed off fairly quietly thanks to Daryl and Kirsty visiting the local schools. There was only a couple of incidents of egg throwing in Beach Road and Crosshands Road. The next meeting of the SEVERNSIDE SAFER STRONGER COMMUNITIES GROUP will be at 7.30pm on 31st January 2008 in Hall at Easter Compton.  Anyone can attend and give thoughts as to how the group can assist your community.  As their diaries are filling up quickly, Daryl and Kirsty request that anyone seeking their present at a function/event contact them as soon as possible.  This includes the provision of no parking cones ore traffic diversons/road closure (through SGC). Regarding the comments about the Remembrance Service in Pilning, there was no request for Crosshands Road to be closed to traffic for the duration of the service.  This will be considered for next year if the community wish.  Make your thoughts known to Daryl or Kirsty.
