New Name
Our police beat is now called the Severnside Neighbourhood Police Beat, and the Police Beat number has been changed to DF 145.   Our Beat Manager is  PC Daryl Lodge assisted by PCSO Kirsty Flicker.  You can get them on the usual numbers, but remember in an emergency always dial 999. They will be working together with South Gloucestershire's Safer and Stronger Community Group. More news of that when their terms of reference are agreed.

SCAM ALERTS

Beware of Scams.  Traders cold calling saying they have some tarmac left over.  Offering to do unnecessary roof repairs.  Cards left stating unable to deliver parcel, giving a telephone number to call.  This is a premium rate number and you can easily run up a bill of £15. Unsolicited phone calls requesting your names and addresses to invite you to an evengt.  This does not happen, they try to find out when house is empty. Promises of Huge Cash Prizes especially the latest one from America which actually encloses a cheque. You are supposed to bank the cheque and then phone a 'toll free' number which actually costs. Want a job, DO NOT take on one as a Secret Shopper.  You are paid up front, told to pay it into your bank, and then to pose as a customer and send a money transfer of £1,500 to a 'relative' in Canada,(so say to test how quickly bank transfers the money).  Of course the transfer goes through from your account, but the cheque they sent you does not. South Gloucestershire Council has produced a very good leaflet called Scam Wise together with Trading Standards and Consumer Direct.  Available soon from Peter Tyzack and Neighbourhood Watch Members.

We believe there is no point in reinventing the wheel.

So rather than duplicating the already quality advice that is already available on crime reduction techniques we have provided a link to the Avon & Somerset Police website that has comprehensive section on this subject.
