During the early hours of Wednesday 5th July,2006, a car parked in Beach Road had its rear quarter light window smashed. It appeared that the person or persons wanted to take some school-play costumes from the back seat. Why on earth someone would want a mermaids tail and pom-poms is beyond me! Fortunately they left them but the owner is now faced with having to get the window replaced. Let me remind you not to leave things on show in your car especially in car-parks and on the street at night.

HEAT-HEALTH WATCH 1st July to 15th September 2006.

Notification has been received from the Health Authority that a heat wave alert will take effect as from 2 July 2006. They are asking neighbourhood watch members to please check your vulnerable and elderly neighbours on a daily basis during this time.

Heatstroke can kill. It can develop very suddenly and rapidly lead to unconsciousness. If you suspect someone has heatstroke, call 999 immediately.

While waiting for the ambulance:
If possible, move the person somewhere cooler.
Increase ventilation by opening windows or using a fan.
Cool them down as quickly as possible by loosening their clothes, sprinkling them with cool water or wrapping them in a damp sheet.
If they are conscious give them water or fruit juice to drink.
Do not give aspirin or paracetomol.
If you are concerned but heatstroke is not apparent then please contact NHS Direct on 0845 4647.
