beware new scam

Police are issuing a warning to people after a con man attempts a new tactic.

On May 17 at about 12noon a man in his 30’s, was approached by the offender in Tesco’s car park, Yate.

The suspect spoke to the man about his parents and how they had a problem with their water.

As the offender appeared confident and knew about the man's parents he took them to their house in Longford, Yate.

The offender told the victims their water was contaminated and began to turn the taps on and off in the kitchen and downstairs toilet.

The victims became suspicious and the offender was asked to leave, nothing is believed to have been stolen from the property.

He made off in a silver Vauxhall Cavalier.

The offender stated his name was Mr Jenkins and is described as a white, 5ft 7ins tall, of stocky build with dark hair and a moustache.

He had dark eyes and a slight Bristol accent.

He was wearing a blue and white check shirt, blue jeans and black shoes. He also carried a mobile telephone.

Anyone with information should contact the Burglary Squad at Staple Hill Police Station on 0845 4567000.

Police are advising people to stop, chain and check and if the caller has no identification, do not let them in.

Severn beach news
inform you of two incidents that have occurred
in Severn Beach within the past week.

The details are;

Beach Avenue - Garage Break, The offender gained entry by cutting the lock
off the door. A large amount of power tools were stolen.

Gorse Cover Road - Attempted Distraction Burglary, At 6.15pm on the 8th May
a male and female knocked at the door of the occupant
and stated they were from South Glos Council.
The male stated that he was interested in buying the house opposite
but needed to look inside occupants house to
see if building work complied with regulations. The occupant offered
them an appointment to come back but they
declined.

Although it is not good news that this distraction burglary took place, it
is excellent that the occupant refused the people entry to their home
and this is improving across the district but please do stress this to your
members. Can you also advise members that as well as property
marking valuables in their homes, they should also property mark valuables
that are kept in their garages and sheds.

Parcel Delivery Service
Warning, if you receive a card through your door from the above company, PDS stating that they have a parcel awaiting delivery instructions and that you can contact them on 0906 6611911. DO NOT CALL THIS NUMBER, it is a mail scam from Belize, and each call just reaches a recorded message which costs you £15.
If you receive a card with the above details, please contact Royal Mail Fraud on 02072396655 or ICTIS at http://www.ictis.org.uk.
Do not confuse this with our local Royal Mail Service, where you can pick up parcels from Severn Beach Post Office, if you are out when Postman tried to deliver to you.
