WARNING

Please be aware that in the early hours of this morning 09/02/09 (approx: 4.30am) an occupant in Gorse Cover Road was awoken by an intruder downstairs.  Upon investigation the occupant discovered that the intruder had gained access via the rear patio door. Electrical goods, car keys and car were all taken.  No details of the registration number of the car as yet.  Please security mark your goods with your house number and post code. Take your keys upstairs and put them in a drawer near your bed.  Check all doors and locks and fit bolts as an added precaution.  Do not attempt to tackle the intruders yourselves, dial 999 and state that the Police have been called.

Correction
The Crime Figures in the minutes of the last NHW meeting refer to the year 2008/2009 to date (approx 4 months) NOT for the whole of the year 2008. Sorry, confusion between the Secretary and me.

BEWARE

Please be aware that people are being 'cold called' regarding having their paths and driveways done by non reputable companies. For advise about companies you might wish to use ring Consumer Direct on 08454 04  05 06.

The bogus water-board man has struck again! NHW cannot stress too highly the need for people to check identity cards before allowing anyone in.  IF IN DOUBT, KEEP THEM OUT- and check with the company they are representing.

Again can I remind everyone to remove valuables from cars and make sure they are secured.  Keys to cars must not be on show from a window or door. Likewise sheds and garages are being targetted and unfortunately burglaries from homes are on the increase. Do what you can to keep your home secure. Advise is available from the Police.

Two new bins for plastic waste have been sited in Severn Beach Village Hall Car Park.

The area at the Beach Avenue end of Shaft Road has a broken fence and broken lights and is being used by people dumping rubbish. The Putcher sculpture is being erected at the entrance of Western Approaches but unfortunately fencing and decking has been damaged and a seat in memory of Mary Rowe has been broken. Youths without helmets are riding around particularly in the early evening after schools have closed.

The roundabout at the junction of Station Road, Ableton Lane and Gorsecover Road is very busy at teatime and drivers are approaching it too fast A woman in a black BMW has been seen using a mobile phone whilst negotiating the roundabout, then drove off very fast along Gorsecover Road. When kids were seen firing a gun, police were called but didn't turn up. Youths gathering near the Visitors Centre leaving 'take a way rubbish' was reported last year and the situation was being monitored.

Cycling groups have been seen on the Binn wall, it would appear there is some confusion about the cycle routes so a letter will be sent to Streetcare asking for bigger better signs.

Residents near the Rugby Club are experiencing problems of noise and nuisance sometimes into the early hours, the new years eve party went on most of the night and a recent private party in the village hall which ended at 12 spilled over into the rugby club and went on late into the night.

High tides are due 23/24/25 January with the highest on Sunday of 11 metres

The next meeting will be on Monday 9th March 2009

Wrong name!!!

Looking on the A&S Police website to find out what the helicopter was doing in the early hours of the morning (suspect search - burglary) I looked again at the Severnside Beat Team news.  This time it says new Beat Manager Constable Claire Thomas, so I await with baited breath to see who turns up at the NHW meeting next Monday. At least we have someone appointed!

We believe there is no point in reinventing the wheel.

So rather than duplicating the already quality advice that is already available on crime reduction techniques we have provided a link to the Avon & Somerset Police website that has comprehensive section on this subject.
