Police in South Gloucestershire are appealing for the public's help to trace hot tubs valued at around £30,000 stolen from Cribbs Causeway.

The three Villeroy and Bosch hot tubs were taken together with a £700 kettle barbecue in a lorry that was stolen from the Saracens Rugby Club, Cribbs Causeway, some time overnight on Friday, August 22, into the following day.

The tubs had been put out on display and were loaded by the thieves using a forklift into a Ford Iveco truck.

The Iveco has since been recovered from Hallen, but the hot tubs remain outstanding.

Police would like to speak to anyone who may have any information about the theft or might have been offered the hot tubs for sale.

Anyone who can help is asked to contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.

Security warning to householders after 24 burglaries (South Gloucestershire)
Now that the summer is finally here burglars are taking advantage of windows and doors left open to snatch easy pickings from homes across South Gloucestershire.

Community Safety Sergeant Kevin Wilkinson said: "We all know that prevention is better than cure. We don't want people to have to go through the stress and inconvenience of a burglary. It is really simple to deter burglars by remembering that security begins at home.

"We know that when we have good weather, people can be lulled into a false sense of security and leave windows open at night or while they are enjoying the sunshine in their gardens – and those are windows of opportunity to thieves.

"With fewer than half a per cent of households in South Gloucestershire falling victim to burglary last year, it is a safe place to live and work, but we all have a part to play to make it safer and stronger. "

So far this month there have been burglaries in areas including Bradley Stoke, Patchway, Stoke Gifford and Yate, with the thieves stealing items including computers, electronic games, MP3 players, silver cutlery and crystal glasses as well as cash, bank cards and jewellery.

PS Wilkinson's top tips include:
• Always secure windows and doors – especially when you go out, at night, and as the weather improves. Remember when you are in the garden, keep them closed and locked
• Keep small high-value items like your car keys, mobile phone, wallet, handbag and jewellery out of sight
• If you have a burglar alarm, set it at night as well as while you are out
• Look at your home with the eyes of a burglar. How would you break in? Fit extra security devices like lighting, alarms and window locks
• Make sure fences and gates are sturdy with good-quality locks and hinges
• Join Neighbourhood Watch – it promotes a sense of community and can make you six times less likely to be burgled
• Mark your valuables with your post-code and register them on www.immobilise.com
• Check out www.secureyourmanor.org for more information and advice

Victims of crime and people aged 65 and over can also request a visit from the Bobby Van. A specially-trained carpenter with a mobile workshop will assess security needs at their home and install quality security devices.

More information on the Bobby Van is available from the police website, www.avonandsomerset.police.uk or by calling 0845 456 7000.

Recently there has been an increase in Dwelling Burglaries via insecure properties.
Message Number D17 240708
Sent on behalf of Community Safety Dept

Recently there has been an increase in Dwelling Burglaries via insecure properties.
In the warmer weather, people are leaving their doors and windows open when they go out or when they are in another part of their home or in the garden.

Please advise your members to ensure all doors and windows are closed and lock when you go out. Whilst at home or in the garden please ensure that all accessible doors and windows are closed and locked when you leave the room. As you should be aware any open windows or doors will attract the attention of an opportunist thief.

We would also like to remind you to property mark your valuables, marking packs can be purchased by contacting the Community Safety Department on 0117 9454127.

If you have information about any crime, phone the police on 0845 456 7000 or you can call anonymously to the independent charity CRIMESTOPPERS 0800 555 111

Severn Beach Neighbourhood Watch Minutes - 14th July 2008
June 16th to 23rd is Action in the Neighbourhood Week

Volunteers walked around the area with representives from SGC to pinpoint areas where action is needed to improve the village. We learned that there is small budget and not many staff but they would do their best.  Some of work has already been done and hopefully more will be done in time.

The next  meeting of the Safer Stronger Group will be on 24th July at Hallen and Transport Issues among other things will be discussed so anyone who wishes to make their feelings known about our bus and rail services this is the opportunity to do so.

SBNW Co-ordinator reports that he is now getting regular N W literature and information from Melanie Andrews about crime news etc. It was suggested that we invite Melanie to come and talk to us at the next meeting.

There have been several breakins at New Passage.

Two European males were seen taking photos of horses.

Large Garden Ornaments were stolen from Salthouse Farm.

A car was damaged and a shed broken into in Severn Beach and  a  house in Gorse Cover Road is being used for `rave` style parties.

It is important that all incidents are reported to either the police or the SG Council so that a picture can be built up of what is going on in our area.

The Bins for the collection of plastic bottles have been removed from Severn Beach Playing Fields car park due to vandalism and a fire.  It is hoped to have them replaced in the near future.

A new PCSO Paul Baxter will take over 50% of Kirstys duties as she is to spend 50% of her time in another area.

The next meeting will be the AGM on 8th September 2008
