Tracking down story of Blackpool of the West
Severn Beach only existed as a farm until the Great Western Railway decided to link Pilning with Avonmouth in 1900.
The railway company saw the possibilities for development now that trains passed through the area and built a station there in 1922.
Local entrepreneur Robert Stride seized the chance to turn Severn Beach into the " Blackpool of the West"
