Verification of Currency Notes with UV (Ultra Violet) Light
Everyone needs to be on their guard against the possibility of handling or being given counterfeit or forged notes. This applies as much to Sterling as U.S. Dollars, EURO bank notes and most other currencies. Whilst there are many unique and differing security features incorporated it is not always possible to appreciate their relevance.
One feature that is easy to recognise is the special cotton/fibre based paper that is used. Unlike normal paper it does not reflect or glow under a U.V. light beam (as shown in the illustration overleaf.) If the U.V. light glows as much on a currency note as on normal white paper then you should not accept or use this note, but report it to the police.
